Comments - Beautiful triptych of Prince Genji and beauties strolling past an enormous old plum tree at night. The nobleman stands in the center, looking up with a grin. The beauty at left smiles back at him, a lantern in her hand. Her kimono features chrysanthemum blossoms and tie-dyed water, worn over a red under robe and tied with a brown hexagonal print obi. Another woman follows along at right, carrying Genji's sword. The white plum blossoms and buds contrast beautifully with the dark night sky, the rugged trunk of the tree rendered in bold calligraphic strokes. A beautiful subject with soft shading on the sky and fine detail in the elegant kimono fabrics.
