Series; A Collection of Flowers for the Eastern Genji
Plum, 1865 - Charming scene of Prince Genji and beauties in an elegant interior. He sits on a cushion in the center, leaning over a black lacquer armrest as he chats with a beauty reading a letter. She looks up with an eager smile as she holds the message in her hands, the paper trailing onto the floor. In the alcove above, an arrangement of blossoming plum branches and greenery sits atop a stand before two hanging scrolls. Nicely detailed with embossing on the white kimono collars and trim and the letter.
