Young Man with a Bamboo Stalk, 1856

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of a young man looking up with a frown as he carries bamboo stalk with a fan tied to it over his shoulder. His purple kimono is patterned with autumn grasses and blossoms, worn over a red robe decorated with white fans. Long locks of hair fall over his shoulders, and he has a purple invalid's sash tied about his head. A plaid border runs across the top, adding graphic interest. A handsome design.
