Onoe Kikugoro IV as Tsuchiya Umegawa, 1860

Series; The Mirror of Today's Pictures

Mirror of Today's Pictures - Handsome design from Tokyokuni III's series "Mirror of Today's Pictures," which features portraits of kabuki actors as reflected in oval mirrors with elegant black lacquer frames. Pieces of tie-dyed and print fabrics are tucked around the edges of each frame, with confetti-like dots scattered across the background and a verse above. These expressive figures are beautifully detailed, with fine line work in the hair. A seldom-seen kabuki series in an interesting format.

Special detail - Embossed pattern on the white collar, delicate cloth embossing on the white sash around her shoulders, subtle burnished check pattern on the black kimono.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9 1/2"

Condition - This print with nice detail as shown. Backed with paper. Vertical centerfold. Stitching holes at side, repaired. Please see photos for details.
