Series; The Storehouse of Loyal Retainers, circa 1851

The Storehouse of Loyal Retainers - Handsome woodblock scene from Kunisada II's series based on the kabuki play "The Storehouse of Loyal Retainers" (Kanadehon Chushingura), which tells the fantastic story of the 47 Ronin, who avenged their master's death. Kunisada II designed this series around 1851, setting the figures into attractive landscape and interior settings which differ somewhat from the traditional choice of subjects employed by earlier artists. These interesting scenes are a nice option for a collector interested in this classic tale of honor and revenge.

Condition - This print with good detail as shown. Wrinkling, slight rubbing at edges and curling. Some prints have a few wormholes, repaired. Please see photos for details.
