The Bustle of the Actors' Dressing Room, 1892

Comments - Fantastic scene of actors backstage in the dressing room, several men bathing in a deep tub as another pats his face dry with the sleeve of his tie-dyed kimono. In the center, Ichikawa Danjuro still wears his red stage makeup. At lower right, an attendant points at a letter in his hand, while at left, robes are scattered across shelves with sandals on the floor below. An incredible depiction of actors offstage, with expressive faces and fine detail in the short cropped hair. The first time we've seen this kabuki design.
