Shizuka-gozen Kakemono, circa 1835 - 1840

Comments - Lovely portrait of the beautiful Shizuka-gozen or Lady Shizuka, the mistress of Minamoto no Yoshitsune, as shirabyoshi dancer. She smiles sweetly as she looks over her shoulder, holding one sleeve to her shoulder. She wears an intricately patterned gray vest over a blue kimono shaded to green with a design of waterwheels made of cherry blossoms and flowing water. A tall yellow court cap is tied under her chin, and a sword is tucked at her side. A fine reed blind is rolled up overhead, fastened with a tasseled cord. A handsome Edo era kakemono or vertical diptych by Kuniyoshi.

Image Size - 28 3/4" x 9 3/4" + margin as shown

Condition - This print with good detail as shown. Two separate panels. Small repair, a few creases. Please see photos for details.
