Kiso Yoshinaka and Yamabuki Gozen, circa 1843

Comments - Handsome scene of the young warrior Kiso Yoshinaka and Lady Yamabuki looking into the garden from a room. The samurai scowls unhappily as he stares out the window, his hair pulled back into a thick upright topknot tied with cord. The beauty hides a smile behind her sleeve as she kneels behind him, holding his sword upright. Her blue kimono features tie-dyed leaves and water, her hair pulled back into a smooth bun adorned with a comb, a red ribbon, and a cluster of small blue flowers. A stone step leads into the courtyard at lower right, and leaves frame the window at upper left. Nice expressive figures in a well detailed setting.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 9 3/8"

Condition - This print good detail as shown. Stitching holes at side, small losses at corners, repaired. Slight rubbing. Please see photos for details.
