Original Chikanobu (1838 - 1912) Japanese Woodblock Print
Ise Daijingu Shrine

Comments - Handsome view of the Meiji Emperor and dignitaries paying a visit to Ise Daijingu Shrine. The Emperor stands in the center wearing a dress uniform with epaulets, flanked by men in similar attire. At left, men in formal court dress bow respectfully while musicians along the side of the room play the flute and the sho, a reed pipe. An interesting design, nicely composed. The first time we've seen this Chikanobu design.
