The Empress Cherry Blossom Sightseeing on the Sumida River

Comments - Attractive scene of the Meiji Empress and two ladies-in-waiting on an outing to view the blossoming cherry trees along the Sumida River. She stands in the center, holding a folding fan open behind her head. The beauty kneeling at right holds a tray with an ornate crown topped with a phoenix figurine. Buildings line the opposite shore with boats on the water. A charming design, nicely detailed with embossing on the white kimono collars and metallic pigment that has oxidized to a dark tone on the Empress's kimono.

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 1/4"
