Samurai Drinking Sake outside a Temple, 1852

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene of the samurai Suzuki Mondo relaxing on a bench outside a temple, a cup of sake in one hand. He frowns as he looks up at the beauty Hashimontoya Shiraito, who smiles back at him wistfully as she stands on the steps, one hand resting on the pillar of a torii gate. At left, a kneeling woman looks up at Mondo with a rather crazed grin as she holds a blue and white porcelain bottle of sake. Blossoming cherry branches frame the sky above a grassy slope. An attractive design with an interesting setting.
