Comments - Terrific kabuki scene of two samurai battling in the snow, the fellow in the center raising his sword above his head with one hand while pushing away the wrist of his attacker with the other. His enemy lunches towards him, grabbing the elbow of his sword arm as snow showers down over the scene from the pine branches disturbed above. A dynamic and dramatic design, with large colorful figures and a striking setting. From left, the actors are Onoe Kikugoro V and Ichikawa Udanji. Beautifully detailed with a spattering of hand-applied gofun (white pigment) to simulate the flying snow and metallic pigment that has oxidized to a dark tone on the blades.
