Nakamura Theater Celebration, 1864

Comments - Intriguing scene of a celebration for the Nakamuraza or Nakamura Theater in Edo, with actors on an upper story tossing mochi or sticky rice cakes over the side to an audience below. A decoration with colorful ribbons flutters in the breeze at upper right. The actors are Bando Hikosaburo V, Nakamura Ganpachi I, Iwai Yonejiro I, Nakamura Aizo I (?), and Nakayama Genjuro II. An interesting and unusual subject with expressive figures.
