The Tale of Genji - Considered by some as the first novel ever written, "The Tale of Genji" is one of the greatest works of Japanese literature. Written by the noblewoman Lady Murasaki Shikubu in the early 11th century during the Heian era, "The Tale of Genji" tells the story of Prince Genji, recounting his life, loves, and the aristocratic world around him in fifty-four chapters. Lady Murasaki's tale of courtly life remains a classic of literature today.

A Special Commemorative Edition - Masao Ebina's beautiful "Tale of Genji" series was originally published in 1953 by Yamada Shoin in a limited-edition release of only 200 complete sets. This deluxe series featured special treatments such as silver and gold mica, and the use of up to 100 blocks for a single print. In 1984 after the artist's death, Tokyo publisher Shubido released a beautiful commemorative edition of Ebina's lovely Genji designs in a larger format, in a limited edition of 300. These commemorative prints are a wonderful memorial to the lasting beauty of Masao Ebina's classic Genji designs, and include the same deluxe printing techniques used in the first edition.
