Nakamura Shikan IV as Fuwa Banzaemon, 1861

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Nakamura Shikan IV as the evil samurai Fuwa Banzaemon in the play "Chiyo no Haru Tosa-e no Saya-ate." He stands in a courtyard garden, grimacing angrily as he looks over his shoulder. He has a shakuhachi flute in one hand as he pushes up the sleeve of his boldly patterned kimono with the other. A stone lantern can be seen at left, with blossoming cherry branches framing the night sky above. A nice expressive figure.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 9 1/4"

Condition - This print with nice detail as shown. A couple tears and holes, repaired. A few creases. Please see photos for details.
