Bando Mitsugoro IV as Gokuin Sen'emon, circa 1838 - Handsome kabuki portrait of Bando Mitsugoro IV as the otokodate or street knight Gokuin Sen'emon. He looks over his shoulder with an angry frown as he holds one sleeve to his chest, his brows furrowed. A shakuhachi flute can be seen above his back, and he has a sword tucked at his side. This is a rare aizuri-e or primarily blue version of this subject, which is also known in full color with a fan around the series title at upper right. An unusual and interesting variant.
