Kasumi Teshigawara Arranging Chrysanthemums

Fuji Arts’ special acquisition from Momose - This print is from a beautiful group of limited edition prints recently acquired from the archives of the publisher, The Momose Print Company of Tokyo. We purchased the entire balance of the publisher’s limited-edition inventory of all designs. They are only available on the secondary market and have become increasingly difficult to find. The prints were originally offered in a shin-hanga limited edition promotion from Momose. The Shinsui and Kaburagi beauties were sold for 280,000 yen each (approx. $2,750).

Comments - Terrific, modern image of Kasumi Teshigawara arranging chrysanthemums in an interior. She kneels next to a red and black vase, a pair of scissors in one hand as she adjusts the blossoms with the other, a lacquer tray of flowers beside her. She wears a blue kimono with a subtle white pattern, bordered with grasses and flowers. Her burgundy obi features a bold gold mica pattern. Beautiful handling of the reflections on the black lacquer base beneath the vase. Kasumi Teshigawara was an expert in the art of ikebana, and wrote several books on the subject. Published by Momose as part of a small group of woodblock designs based on Shinsui's paintings. A rare, large, double oban format design by Shinsui, great for display.
