A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Kuniyoshi Prints - One of the great masters of ukiyo-e woodblocks, Kuniyoshi is perhaps best known for his warrior prints, but he worked in a range of subjects. In addition to dramatic samurai and battle scenes, he also created kabuki, beauty, landscape, and comic designs, each expertly drawn and composed. Don't miss this opportunity to acquire a classic woodblock by this great Edo era artist at a low opening bid price.

Scene from O megumi niuruo Iwafuji, 1849 - Interesting scene from the kabuki play "O megumi niuruo Iwafuji" of the samurai Wakato Kihei caught between two beauties tugging on the end of a braided cord tied to a small document box. The samurai falls backwards as the box knocks him in the chest, raising his sleeve above his head. At left, Ohiyo scowls angrily as she pulls on the rope, the lid of the box having fallen to the ground near her foot. At right, Ohatsu turns away with a faint smile. The scene takes place in the street outside a daimyo's mansion, with a street lamp in the center. From left, the actors are Bando Shuka I, Nakamura Utaemon IV, and Ichimura Uzaemon XII. Nice expressive figures set against a background with strong graphic impact.
