Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
A Spring Night, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Handsome triptych of Prince Genji paying a visit to a beauty on a spring night. He kneels in the center, smiling as he looks up at the beauty, wearing a blue gray coat with circular motifs and resting his hand atop a folding fan. The woman smiles sweetly down at him as she tucks her hand into her robe. An ornate pot hangs over a floor brazier at left, with a tray on the floor nearby holding a container with a dipper resting across it. At right, two women chat, one holding the nobleman's sword while the other leans against a rustic wooden post. The room overlooks an ancient tree covered with cherry blossoms and buds. An attractive design with wonderful detail in the elegant fabrics and interior.
