Ichikawa Danjuro IX as Fuwa Banzaemon, 1885

Comments - Terrific kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Danjuro IX as Fuwa Banzaemon backstage preparing for the role of Fuwa Banzaemon, an evil samurai who steals a scroll in the care of Nagoya Sanza, who is then banished from his clan. He looks to the side with an angry grimace, his brows deeply furrowed. He wears an informal blue and white kimono as he sits in front of a large mirror with a red lacquer frame. A fantastic, bold design with fine line work in the hair. A great look at an actor in his dressing room.
