Nakamura Shikan as the Yakko Ranpei, 1865

Comments - Interesting half-length kabuki portrait of Nakamura Shikan as the yakko or footman Ranpei, holding a stalk of bamboo over his shoulder. He looks up with a tightlipped frown as he rubs his head, wearing a boldly patterned kimono featuring crossed scrolls and a striped collar that identifies him as a yakko. A few cherry blossoms petals drift down though the night sky. A large colorful figure.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 1/8"
