Courtesan Agemaki in a Dragon Obi, 1850

Comments - Interesting kabuki with the courtesan Agemaki of the Miuraya and other people strolling down the street. At left, the beauty smiles as she looks back over her shoulder. She wears a red outer kimono with a design of a ball, shuttlecock, and battledore near the hem over a red floral under robe, tied with a striking obi depicting a dragon. At upper left, a servant carries a red lacquer table piled with dishes of food, including a fish on a platter. At lower right, a samurai looks back over his shoulder in surprise, placing his hand on the shoulder of the elderly woman before him, who has an alarmed expression on her face. Nice expressive figures.

Image Size - 14 3/8" x 19 7/8" + top margin as shown
