Senjafuda - Literally "thousand shrine slip," senjafuda are small woodblock votive prayer slips designed to be pasted up at temples and shrines by visitors. Senjafuda became popular with travelers on pilgrimage during the Edo era, and are still used today. They also became prized as collectibles, with groups meeting to commission and trade designs. Each senjafuda features the name of the person or association commissioning it, usually in kanji characters, and many feature colorful scenes. These wonderful little woodblocks are a traditional Japanese art form, displaying a creative use of color and composition in a small format. A fun choice to collect or display!
