Comments - Handsome kabuki scene from the play "Sodegaura koi no Harusame" of the koshimoto or lady's maid Fusano pulling on the end of Kiura Shingo's obi, grinning with amusement as she looks up. Shingo frowns back at her from his seat atop a wooden frame over a floor hearth, a loose wisp of hair framing his face and giving him a somewhat disheveled appearance. A sinuous line separates the figures from an exterior scene at right, where the samurai Nakano Shozaburo looks up with a worried frown, the servant Shimobe Naosuke crouching at his feet with a lantern. From left, the actors are Bando Hikosaburo V, Iwai Kumesaburo III, Otani Tokuji, and Kataoka Nizaemon VIII. Beautifully detailed with a burnished geometric pattern on Shingo's black kimono.
