Comments - Dramatic depiction of the Battle of Takadate in Oshu between the Genji and the Heike. In the center, Izumi Saburo Tadahira gallops along carrying two spears in one hand as he raises his sword above his head with the other, having already sent an enemy flying head over heels before him. Foot soldiers attack him with swords and spear, some of them trampled under his horse's hooves. At left, Nishikido Taro Kunihira's horse has become mired in the mud, sinking up to its chest. In the distance, the silhouette of a castle compound with towers can be seen against the dark trees. A lively action scene with expressive figures and fine detail in the armor and weapons.
