Nakamura Shikan as Sato Masakiyo, 1873 by Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Original Kunichika (1835 - 1900) Japanese Woodblock Print
Nakamura Shikan as Sato Masakiyo, 1873

Comments - Bold kabuki portrait of Nakamura Shikan IV as the great general Sato Masakiyo (the real-life Kato Kiyomasa), staring ahead with a determined frown as he grips his polearm, one blade of the weapon broken in battle. He wears a suit of armor and gloves, his helmet topped with horns and his floral crest. A dramatic design, beautifully detailed with fine line work in the hair.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with nice detail as shown. Backed with paper. Horizontal and vertical folds. A few wormholes, repaired. Creasing, staining. Please see photos for details.
