Purple of Edo, 1860 by Yoshiiku (1833 - 1904)

Original Yoshiiku (1833 - 1904) Japanese Woodblock Print
Purple of Edo, 1860

Comments - Handsome scene of Prince Genji and beauties enjoying an outing to view the cherry blossoms in spring. He stands on a stepping stone along the edge of a lake, smiling happily, an ornate pipe in hand. He wears a patterned coat trimmed with a pleated black collar over a gray kimono. A beauty kneels beside him holding a fine black lacquer tobacco set at right, while a young girl serves as his sword bearer at left. An elegantly dressed beauty sits on a verandah at right, smiling shyly with her sleeve held to her chin. A flowering cherry branch frames the scene. A lovely design.

Artist - Yoshiiku (1833 - 1904)
