Original Edo era Japanese Woodblock Print
Shinozuka Iga no Kami

Comments - Terrific portrait of the legendary samurai Shinozuka Iga no Kami, a retainer of the Nitta Clan renowned for his great strength, during a battle in the Hakone Mountain Range. With one hand, he tosses an enemy high overhead, sending him tumbling upside-down through the air while simultaneously standing on the neck of a fallen opponent. Shinozuka grimaces angrily, biting his lower lip, wearing armor over a green and red cloud print kimono and pants, his helmet topped with horns and a blossom. The personal standard flying above his back depicts a lion. Fighting continues in the distance, with a warrior on horseback galloping across the hillside at upper right. A lively scene with expressive figures.
