Original Nobukazu (1874 - 1944) Japanese Woodblock Print
Illustration of the Emperor's Safe Arrival at Hiroshima Prefecture, 1894

Comments - Great scene of the Meiji Emperor arriving safely at Hiroshima Prefecture, which served as the Imperial Headquarters during the Sino-Japanese War. The Emperor commanded the armed forces from Hiroshima, which was an important military city during the Meiji era with a strategic port. Here, he rides on horseback in the center, wearing a uniform and a cap topped with a feather, pausing to look back at the Empress and her ladies-in-waiting, who have arrived in the royal carriage. At left, a military band plays music and fireworks explode in the sky at top center. The first time we've seen this interesting design.

Artist - Nobukazu (1874 - 1944)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 27 3/4"

Condition - This print with nice color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with somewhat stiff paper. Some prints have a few spots or marks. Please see photos for details.
