Comments - Interesting depiction of a ceremony celebrating the Silver Wedding Anniversary of the Meiji Emperor and Empress. In the center, a man reads a proclamation and dignitaries are gathered around the edges of the room. Strangely, the drapery at right partially conceals the table where the royal couple are sitting, so they are not included in the scene. Outside, red paper lanterns are hung from a tree, and fireworks explode in a shower of sparks and small parachutes, along with a toy soldier on horseback. Nicely detailed with lacquer on the black uniforms. The first time we've seen this historic subject.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 29 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with nice color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. A few small repairs, creasing. Please see photos for details.
