Original Kunichika (1835 - 1900) Japanese Woodblock Print
Kawarazaki Mimasu, 1874

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Kawarazaki Mimasu as an otokodate or street knight, looking ahead with an angry frown, his brows furrowed. He wears a purple kimono patterned with blocks of writing, a blue cloth wrapped around his neck and a sword at his side. A shakuhachi flute tucked into the back of his obi can be seen at right. A fan-shaped inset above contains a verse. A nice large expressive figure set off by the deep red background.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14" x 9 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with good color and detail as shown. Horizontal and vertical folds. Small loss, a couple holes, repaired. Wrinkling throughout. Please see photos for details.
