The Tale of the Five Monkeys of the Meiji Era: Cherry Blossoms at the Inn, 1872

Comments - Interesting kabuki portrait of Onoe Kikugoro as Toriyama Shusaku in "Kurode sodo." The young man turns his face away with an angry sneer as a spear is thrust across his chest. He wears a red kimono patterned with flowers and tied with a green brocade obi, his hair pulled back into a thick ponytail swinging with the movement of his head. An unusual composition.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 1/4" x 9" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with good detail as shown. Backed with paper. Slight curling. Please see photos for details.
