Onoe Baiko IV as Koman, 1854

Comments - Interesting kabuki portrait of Onoe Baiko IV as the beauty Koman, looking over her shoulder with an alarmed expression, two swords tucked under her arm. Her kimono is bordered with blue flowers and patterned squares, trimmed with a floral print and tied with a brown brocade obi. The scene takes place in a courtyard, with a blossoming cherry tree outside a garden gate at right, and blue panels decorated with paulownia motifs and stylized birds line the back of the room at upper left. A single yellow butterfly flutters near the beauty's head at left. An expressive figure, nicely detailed.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 9 5/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with good detail as shown. Stitching holes at side, repaired. A few creases. Please see photos for details.
