Ichimura Uzaemon XII as Sakuramaru, 1850

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Ichimura Uzaemon XII as Sakuramaru, one of the samurai triplets in the play "Sugawara Denju Tenerai Kagami." He looks over his shoulder with a slightly alarmed expression, his eyes wide as he kneels beside a tray holding a dirk atop sheets of white cloth. His kimono features his namesake cherry blossoms (sakura), his two swords resting on the floor behind him. At left, the room opens onto a garden with a flowering cherry tree and bamboo fence. An expressive figure.

Image Size - 14" x 10"
