Ichikawa Sadanji I as Sumo Wrestler Ryuzan Namiemon, Formerly Mizuhiki Seigoro

Comments - Bold kabuki portrait of the sumo wrestler Ryuzan Namiemon, formerly known as Mizuhiki Seigoro, during a battle with firemen outside Shiba Shinmei Shrine. Namiemon lifts a ladder above his head with both hands to use it as a weapon, frowning angrily. His outer robe is pushed down to reveal a red and white kimono, the sleeves tied out of the way with rope. A great scene from the play "Kami no Megumi Wago no Torikumi," detailed with fine line work in the hair and burnishing on the black collar.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 5/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with nice color and detail as shown. A few repairs, horizontal folds, wrinkling throughout. Please see photos for details.
