Comments - Terrific image of the great warrior Akechi Samanosuke Mitsuharu escaping from the Hori clan following his defeat at a battle in Uchide-hama. He plunges into the water of Lake Biwa to make his escape, gripping his sword above his head with one hand and the reins in the other. He wears a fantastic vest patterned with a dragon over a suit of armor, and a helmet topped with his floral crest, which also appears on the personal standard above his back. At upper right, startled samurai leap back in alarm as Samanosuke gallops past them, a spear thrown through the air knocking a helmet off at left. At far left, the famous pine tree at Karasaki can be seen at the edge of the opposite shore. A dramatic design with large expressive figures.
