The Nawa Clan Helping Emperor Go-daigo Return from Exile, 1884 - Terrific depiction of samurai of the Nawa Clan helping the deposed Emperor Go-Daigo return from his exile on Oki Island. Under cover of darkness, men have anchored a boat as close to shore as possible to deliver the emperor back to the mainland in an attempt to regain his power. His faithful retainer, Nawa no Nagashige carries the ruler ashore on his back, running through the shallow waves lapping at the beach. A fantastic historic subject, with an atmospheric night setting.
