Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Ichikawa Danjuro as a Barber

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Danjuro as a barber, looking up over his shoulder with an angry grimace as he lifts the edge of his robe. In his other hand he carries a black lacquer chest with his tools, a few combs in the compartment on top. Strangely, he has a woman's hairpin stuck into his hair at the back of his head. The wall behind him features alternating panels of bamboo and black wood, adding graphic impact. A nice expressive figure in a handsomely detailed setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 3/4" x 10 1/8"
