Shinagawa Interior

Comments - Terrific look inside a Shinagawa teahouse at courtesans enjoying a moment of leisure. At lower right, a beauty sits next to a low table with a brush in hand, painting a scene of Mount Fuji on a folding fan. A young kamuro or child apprentice sits on the floor before her, going through finished paintings. The teahouse is full of activity as courtesans chat and stroll through the rooms. Above, a dragons are painted on the ceiling. Wonderful detail in the architectural setting and the elegant clothing and furnishings. Nicely detailed with burnishing on the black kimono and obi, and embossing on the folding fans and white collars.
