Comments - Interesting kabuki scene from the play commonly known as "Kaidan Kohada Koheiji" a tale about the actor Koheiji who is murdered by his wife's lover, Adachi Sakuro, and returns to haunt him. At left, Koheiji stands outside the door, frowning angrily as he eavesdrops. In the center, his wife, Otsuka, smiles as she looks down over her shoulder at puzzled man scratching his head, a pipe in her hand. At right, Adachi Sakuro sits on a bed pulling his kimono over his shoulders, frowning up at a woman who stares at him with a crazed expression. The folding screen behind him depicts a beauty hold a snake. A handsome design with expressive figures and wonderful detail in the setting.
