Comments - Interesting kabuki scene from the tale of the otokodate or street knight Danshichi Kurobei, who ends up murdering his father-in-law during an argument. He stands in the center, frowning unhappily at his fellow street knight Issun Tokubei, who glares back at him angrily. At right, Danshichi's wife Okaji kneels on the floor, smiling sweetly as she gathers her black obi around her. From left to right, the actors are Bando Hikosaburo V, Kawarazaki Gonjuro I, and Sawamura Tanosuke III. Nice architectural detail in the interior setting, with simulated wood grain panels and plaid curtains in the doorway.
