What is a Standard Auction item?
A Standard Auction is a traditional internet auction with a secret proxy bidding system to make placing your bid secure and easy. The auction will run until the posted ending time, with your bids being placed by the proxy bidder competitively to win the item at the lowest possible price. Please see How the Bid Increment Works for a tutorial of our bidding process.

All Fuji Arts standard auctions have a "soft closing". This more closely replicates a live auction setting where the item is won when all customers are finished bidding, not when a set "bidding close" time is reached. Details on the soft closing system can be found below. For more information about Standard Auctions, please see our Standard Auctions Rules and Guidelines.

Auctions and Bidding

Why didn't the Standard auction I bid on end at the time stated on the auction page?
All Fuji Arts standard auctions have a "soft closing". In this system, an auction will close either at the time stated stated on the listing page or five minutes after the last bid is placed, whichever occurs last. Further details on the soft closing system can be found below.
What is the Standard Auction "soft closing"? Why do you use this system?
All Fuji Arts standard auctions have a "soft closing". This system allows for all customers to have the opportunity to post their bids before an item ends. It eliminates sniping and more closely replicates the typical, live floor auction where bidding will continue past the schedule close time until bidders are done.

Specifically, each auction will close either at the time stated on its listing page or five minutes after the last bid is placed, whichever occurs last. You can post an early maximum proxy bid and let the auction run rather than worrying about bidding in the last few seconds or being concerned about being outbid by someone a few seconds before the item closes and losing the item. For more information, please see our Standard Auctions Rules and Guidelines.
What is a "proxy bid"?
A proxy bid and a maximum bid are the same thing. To place a proxy bid, simply enter the maximum amount you are willing to pay for a particular item. Our bid agent will then automatically place incremental bids up to your maximum amount for you.

Your maximum bid is secret and known only by you. Your maximum bid is only placed when a competing bidder bids one increment below, or at the same amount of, your proxy bid. This ensures that the item will be sold at lowest possible price. For a more detailed explanation, please see How the Bid Increment Works for a tutorial of our bidding process.
What is a bid increment?
There are 2 ways the bid increment affects the bidding process for any given item: a) when a user manually places a new bid, and b) when a user's BidAgent automatically calculates the next bid to place. For a more detailed explanation, please see How the Bid Increment Works for a tutorial of our bidding process.
