Thief and Nichiren Praying by Kunisada III (1848 - 1920)

Original Kunisada III (1848 - 1920) Japanese Woodblock Print
Thief and Nichiren Praying

Comments - Great triptych depicting two scenes from a kabuki play, the images separated by a diagonal line. At left thief attempts to steal a young man's money purse, grabbing the bag as he draws his sword, his victim clutching at the drawstring looped around his neck. At right, the devout monk Nichiren keeps a rock suspended above his head through prayer, grasping his prayer beads with clasped hands as another monk watches. A terrific print combining two dramatic scenes, with large figures and attractive color.

Artist - Kunisada III (1848 - 1920)
Image Size - 14" x 27 3/8"
Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Three panels, not attached at the seams, backed with paper. Very slight soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Very nice overall.
