Lord Minamoto Yoritomo's Hunt at Mount Fuji, 1865

Comments - Incredible, complete six-panel woodblock depicting the Shogun Minamoto no Yoritomo's famous hunt that took place at the foot of Mt. Fuji in 1193. The shogun and his court watch the proceedings from an elaborate pavilion atop a low hill at right. Archers on horseback and samurai on foot beating clusters of bamboo poles drive a stream of boar, deer, fox, and rabbits towards a line of warriors along the hillside waiting to attack. A great composition with the snow-capped peak of Mt. Fuji rising majestically in the background. Terrific detail and action in this fantastic design. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection. A fascinating and rare print and a great subject for a samurai enthusiast.

Artist - Sadahide (1807 - 1873)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 58 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Six separate panels, backed with paper. Light vertical fold in four panels. A few small wormholes, small losses at corners, repaired. Slight soiling, a few small spots, slight paper remnants along right edge of right panel. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
