Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Worried Couple and Visitor Waiting, 1857

Comments - Intriguing kabuki scene of a worried couple in an interior with a visitor waiting in a palanquin outside the door at left. The beauty slumps against the door, her hand to her forehead as she bites nervously on a blue cloth. The young man at right looks down with an unhappy frown as he pushes up his sleeve, a blue and white towel clenched in his fist. The low folding screen behind him is decorated with woodblock prints, including a portrait of a warrior signed by Toyokuni III. A tobacco set rests on the floor between them, with a mirror atop a small black lacquer chest and an animal skin stretched out to dry on the shabby wall with cracked and missing plaster. A fascinating subject with wonderful detail in the interior setting and household furnishings.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 29 3/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels. Thinning at edge, a few small wormholes, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases and small marks. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
