Series; Great Views of Nikko, 1892 - 1893
Great Views of Nikko - Handsome print from Ayaoka Yushin's 1892 - 1893 series "Great Views of Nikko." These attractive designs include views of the shrine Toshogu, which houses the mausoleum of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate, and other famous sites. Nicely detailed with soft color and fine bokashi shading, these images are a lovely record of this beautiful area of Japan. Ayaoka Yushin was a student of Shibata Zeshin, but not much else is known about this Meiji era artist. We've never come across this series before.
