Bon Dance in the Genroku Era

Series; One Hundred Beauties Depicting Modern and Ancient Manners

Bon Dance in the Genroku Era - Charming scene of a beauty performing a dance at the Obon or Bon Festival, an annual celebration to honor the souls of one's ancestors, who return to visit their families at this time. She smiles as she raises one foot, waving a fan with one hand. She wears a blue tie-dyed cotton kimono lined with pink over a red under robe, tied with a gray obi. In the background, a string of lanterns hangs above silhouetted dancing figures. A lovely design from a later edition, beautifully detailed with fine line work in the hair and soft bokashi shading.
