Sumo Wrestlers Fighting

Comments - Great kabuki scene of two sumo wrestlers fighting with swords in an interior. The fellow in the center holds his weapon between his hands to block a sword thrust by his rival at right, who stares ahead with a glum frown. At left, a beauty carries a small folded screen beneath her arm, grinning as she looks over her shoulder although her hand seems thrown out in alarm. Curtains shaded from green to blue with a design of autumn grasses hang in the doorway while round bamboo steamer baskets hang on the wall above a kitchen area at left. An interesting design with beautiful detail in the setting and the clothing.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 29 3/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels. Small losses at corners, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
