Shibata Zeshin - Born in Edo, Shibata Zeshin was originally apprenticed to a lacquerer, and studied painting with Shijo School artist Suzuki Nanrei as a foundation. Zeshin was well known for his lacquer work, but he was also an exceptional calligrapher.
