Comments - Intriguing kabuki scene from the play "Azuma Kudari Gojusan Tsugi" of the packhorse driver Dohachi attacking a traveler who reaches for a money bag lying on the ground between them. Dohachi hops on one foot as he strikes the man over the back with the end of a pole arm. At left, the beauty Hitomaru Oroku reaches out her hand with a curious expression, her obi wrapped loosely about her and a dotted towel draped over her shoulder. Her hair is slightly disheveled, with loose locks framing her face and a comb sliding out at the side. A signpost frames the scene behind her, which takes place on the shore with a rocky embankment. A handsome design, detailed with burnishing in the black kimono and bokashi shading in the water. The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, has this image in its collection.

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels. Stitching holes at one side of each panel, a few small wormholes, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases and stains, rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
